Are there any incisions or injections for CoolSculpting?
No, CoolSculpting does not use any incisions or injections. CoolSculpting is considered a noninvasive technique that does not involve any exterior scars. CoolSculpting of Chicago does, however, offer the option to combine CoolSculpting with other modalities which may involve small incisions.
Who is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting?
A patient with a specific area that is resistant to weight loss is a great candidate for CoolSculpting. Many people find that despite following a healthy diet and exercise routine, certain areas like arm fat, lower abdominal fat, fat above the hips, and thigh fat stubbornly remain. These persistent problem areas are often the most effective targets for treatment.
Patients who are more than 30 pounds overweight can still receive the benefits, but the treatment may have less of an effect. It is recommended that patients who are 50+ pounds overweight increase their exercise and implement an improved diet prior to CoolSculpting.
Can a beer belly be treated with CoolSculpting?
It depends what your definition of a beer belly is. If there is pinchable soft fat, this area is ideal for CoolSculpting. Areas that are firm and deeper are made up of visceral fat. This is the fat that surrounds your organs and is often not responsive to CoolSculpting. However, there are cases where CoolTone and Emsculpt have shown some reduction in visceral fat on ultrasound studies.
What Happens to the skin post CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting targets and freezes fat cells directly. This process, known as cryolipolysis, effectively reduces fat deposits without harming the surrounding skin or tissue. After treatment, your body naturally eliminates these crystallized fat cells over the following weeks.
Are there any prior surgeries I could have that would make me a contraindication?
Patients who have had hernia mesh in the abdomen should not be treated with suction applicators. Applications that don’t involve suctions such as CoolSmooth, however, may be used. Areas outside of the hernia mesh may also be treated. Disclose your medical history to your provider before undergoing CoolSculpting to ensure it’s safe for you.
Are there any medical contraindications to CoolSculpt?
Patients taking blood thinners may not be good candidates for CoolSculpting. Patients with compromised renal function and other conditions that are affected by the cold, such as Raynaud’s phenomenon and cryoglobulinemia can also have adverse effects. Disclose your medical history to your provider before undergoing CoolSculpting to ensure it’s safe for you.
