BEAUTY TALK – Ep. 10 – Is CoolSculpting Safe?

So a lot of talk has occurred with Linda Evangelista, what she looked like before and after CoolSculpting. Again, I have not treated her. I don’t know anything about this case other than me looking at People magazine and seeing limited before and afters. So my comments are here just from me being a casual commentator on her case. And apparently, the story is that Linda Evangelista, she had CoolSculpting approximately five years ago, so around 2016.

By definition, that would be an older CoolSculpting device. And since that time, again, she had this on her neck, she had it on her arms, legs, in abdomen, and apparently, she had a rare reaction called paroxysmal adipose hypertrophy. And since then, she’s had multiple plastic surgery procedures trying to remove this excessive fat. She did show some of these results in People magazine and it’s kind of hard to see that. You can see a little bit around her top and a little bit around her stomach, but it’s really not revealing that much.

Obviously, this is kind of a big deal for her because she’s a former supermodel who still does modeling and super significant for her. And it’s always upsetting for patients who choose to get a procedure and not get the result they want. That being said, me, in my practice with CoolSculpting, I have not seen this phenomena occur.

One thought on this is, this is occurring more with legacy devices, older CoolSculpting devices. The very first CoolSculpting devices that came out, I don’t know if they were as cold as the newer devices. There’s been a couple of modifications of CoolSculpting as it has gone on. The latest device of CoolSculpting ELITE is a stronger version in the fact that it has stronger suction. The temperature is the same, although the temperature did change with the version two, three device before they went to CoolSculpting ELITE.

Again, I’m not sure which version of the device she had, but if I was guessing, I guess it would be an earlier version. From the limited patients that I’ve heard of with this condition, all seem to do well with surgery. In her case, I’m not sure what happened. Maybe she didn’t go to a great surgeon. Maybe it was just a complicated case that could not resolve.

Either way, I hope and wish that she gets the results she wants and she can correct this. But in my hands, in my experience, this has been a great treatment. I’ve done this treatment a couple of times, my wife’s done this treatment, many of my office members have done this treatment, and I’ve had lots of patients do this.

We’re one of the busiest offices who do CoolSculpting. But that being said, if any of us were having issues with this, we’ll let you know and you’d be able to see it on me as well. But fortunately, we haven’t seen that and it might be perhaps the way we attach the device, the way we use it. It might be that our devices itself are newer, but either way, wishing her the best.
